I did some sketches early on based around shapes I liked from a few films -there is a bit of an obvious Star Wars influence going on in a lot of these. I wanted to use them as a base to experiment from because they used a few common sources of WW2 german army helmets (Sallet helms) . I think nowadays I would work from the original medieval helmets instead - its more productive and creates more original designs. I would also use natural elements such as plants, insects and animals more, and then merge them back with the helmet images (both medieval and WW2). |
